Sherlock Holmes And The Voice Of Terror is now available at ZeusDVDs.com. Here is the original New York Times review from 1942:

Here we were thinking all the time that Sherlock Holmes was dead, or, at best, but a doddering relic of a past and more peaceful age. Not at all! Up he pops, as youthful and hawk-eyed as you please, in present-day, war-torn London, to do nothing less than catch Nazi spies in Universal's "Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror," which came to the Rialto yesterday. Yessir, the same old Sherlock—and the same old Basil Rathbone, too—only this time with a sort of wind-blown hair-do and markedly without deerstalker cap, is again prowling around in foggy London and the sinister cellars of Limehouse, ferreting out the Nazi agents who not only commit sabotage all over England but have the effrontery to proclaim their acts on the radio.

The same old Dr. Watson is with him, same being the same old Nigel Bruce. And the same old least-suspected person turns out to be the villain in the case. As a matter of fact, the whole film is pretty much of the same old thing—a routine mystery picture without any distinction or surprise. Wait—there is one surprise. It is surprising that Universal should take such cheap advantage of the present crisis to exploit an old, respected fiction character, and that it should do so in a manner which throws suspicion on Britain's administrators. The late Conan Doyle, who obviously never wrote this story, as Universal claims, must be speculating sadly in his spirit world on this betrayal of trust.
