10,000 Maniacs MTV Unplugged (1993)

Natalie Merchant, Jerry AugustyniakRobert BuckDennis Drew

10,000 Maniacs, joined by backing vocalists and several musicians, perform a set drawing heavily from their latest album (Our Time in Eden) in what would be the culmination of the first phase of their career before Natalie Merchant left.  In addition to the songs released on the album, the following other songs were recorded: Four takes of "How You've Grown"; second takes of "Gold Rush Brides" and Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith's "Because the Night", respectively; a brief take of "Puff the Magic Dragon"; and three other songs with David Byrne as a guest singer (two takes of "Let the Mystery Be", one of which was released as a B-side to "Few and Far Between" and on Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure and Unknown Recordings of 10,000 Maniacs; Dolly Parton's "Jolene"; and "Dallas").  During the Introduction to "Hey Jack Kerouac", Merchant reads a passage from On the Road by Jack Kerouac. During the Introduction to "Gold Rush Brides", she reads a passage from Women's Diaries of the Westward Journey by Lillian Schlissel.

  1. 10000 Maniacs is the best ever of the MTV Un-Plugged series 5 Star Review

Posted by on Feb 3rd 2017

I've loved this recording for years.....first watched it on MTV in the 90's. I bought it on VHS over 20 years ago and watched it so many times that the recording became a little damaged....then when we moved house i lost it somewhere in the house or loft. This recording is not available anywhere and therefore i have done without this for years. Just before Christmas i strayed onto You Tube and seen that some of the songs could be watched and then i started looking again for the VHS or hopefully the DVD. I came across Zeus after a Google search and could not believe it when it was available. I am so happy with this that i could not even find enough words to say how happy i am......Anyone reading this please note that these guys sell Top Quality.... my only wish is that i could have given them more than 5 stars, cos i'd have given them a million stars!..... i also wish of course that i'd found Zeus DVD's a hell of a lot sooner. Thank You so much for this. I love this DVD, take my word for it now while you will never regret it!
