Good b & w movie with Tyrone Power, but predictable. The supporting
actors are the best part of the movie.

The small place is an overcrowded lifeboat, adrift after its cruise ship struck a left over mine from the last war. Officer-in-charge Tyrone Power is trying his best to be chivalrous and keep everyone alive, but knows it's not going to work. A grievously wounded fellow officer, wonderfully played by Lloyd Nolan, convinces Power that the only hope for any to survive would be for Power to jettison the old, the wounded, and the weak, leaving only those who are relatively young and fit in the boat. Nolan emphasizes his point by leaping overboard and swimming away.
Does Power follow his advice? How do the other "passengers" react? And what of the single shark circling the boat, but occasionally darting in for a closer look?
This film has haunted me since I first saw it at the age of fourteen or fifteen. For me it is Power's best work, and Nolan's as well. In a word, it's unforgettable.
