  1. Very Satisfying Glimpse at Ballet Dancing Standards & Glory pre-Nureyev 5 Star Review

Posted by on Aug 23rd 2019

Dancers Margot Fonteyn (in her rejuvenated career after Nureyev's advent), Rudolf Nureyev, and Mikhail Baryshnikov in the minds of those of that time and afterwards, set the standards for ballet glamour and virtuosity. However, here, in this DVD, is a fine glimpse at how wonderful the Bolshoi ballet and Russian ballet dancing in general were before that triad of greats' period of glory.

The dancing and the lavish and imaginative costumes and sets from the Bolshoi Theatre leave nothing to desire. This production shows off the Bolshoi to optimum effect and is diverse and well-rounded in what is on the programme.

The sound, screen image, and all the rest are up to the glorious standard that this dance movie set. For dance fans, especially younger ones, this DVD is a real eye-opener and great discovery.
