Product Description

Chief Crazy Horse (1955)

Director:

 George Sherman

Writers:

Franklin Coen (screenplay), Gerald Drayson Adams(screenplay)

Stars:

Victor Mature, Suzan Ball, John Lund

Reviled in his lifetime as a lunatic insurrectionist, Chief Crazy Horse has in recent years emerged as a Native American hero. In this off-beat western, unusual for its time in that it sympathetically presented the Native American viewpoint, Victor Mature plays the misunderstood Sioux leader while the treaty-breaking villain General Crook is played by James Millican (who had earlier portrayed an equally unsympathetic General Custer in Warpath). The battle of the Little Big Horn is staged with less bravura but more authenticity than in 1941's They Died With Their Boots On (a wildly inaccurate pro-Custer opus). Chief Crazy Horse falters only in its verbose dialogue sequences, wherein the native tongue of the Sioux seems to be Fluent Cliche.

  1. Excellent copy in every way 5 Star Review

The ZeusDVD release of CHIEF CRAZY HORSE is excellent in every way--great color resolution, natural wide-screen, it could have been a release from a major studio. Indeed, this issue is well-worth purchasing and holds up very well to any commercial issue.

  2. Crazy Horse 4 Star Review

I was mildly surprised by the quality of the dvd. The Movie was from the mid fifties, but the color was very good. No this is not blu ray but damn good compared to other westerns from this era that are not yet on blu ray. I thought the acting was pretty good, especially Suzan Ball, what a beautiful actress. She passed away shortly after making this movie from cancer that had caused her leg to be amputated before the movie was made. The only draw back is that the leads were not American Indians as in the 1996 version of Crazy Horse.
