an ok musical
this film, however, must have been liked at the time, as it was remade twice - first with Alice Faye (again) in a lavish, technicolor musical, "Hello Frisco, Hello" (1943), and then, yet again, in 1945, in another lavish, technicolor musical, called "Nob Hill". "King of Burlesque" is really nothing special, but it has a tuneful score. If you can sit through it, then the finale numbers are wonderful. The song "Lovely Lady", (always used in circus movies) was introduced in this film, sung by Kenny Baker, with ladies on trapezes. Better yet, in the finale, is "Spreadin' Rhythm Around", sung and played by Fats Waller, and danced by the teenaged Dixie Dunbar.
