A remake of the 1917 Mary Pickford vehicle of the same name, Poor Little Rich Girl stars Shirley Temple in the title role. Neglected by her widowed soap-tycoon father (Michael Whalen), lonely Barbara Barry (Temple) spends most of her time in the company of her nursemaid Collins (Sara Haden). While on a shopping excursion in the City, Collins is killed in a traffic accident, and Barbara gets lost in the crowd. She finds shelter in the warm and loving tenement home of barber Tony (Henry Armetta), where she makes the acquaintance of vaudeville entertainers Jerry and Jimmy Dolan (Alice Faye and Jack Haley). Assuming that the girl is an orphan, the Dolans invite her to join their act when they discover that she possesses considerable singing and dancing talents. As fate would have it, Jerry, Jimmy and Barbara audition for a radio program which happens to be sponsored by Barbara's dad! For all its music, charm and vivacity, Poor Little Rich Girl has an unsettling inner lining of cruelty: Not only is the plot motivated by the death of Shirley's governess, but our poor heroine spends a good portion of the film avoiding a seedy would-be child molester (John Wray)!

    This is a good DVD copy (not digitally remastered!) for the average fan of the "Poor Little Rich Girl" (1936, starring Shirley Temple), comparable in quality to the 1994 release of the movie on VHS by Fox Video. No freeze or skipping! It doesn't come with artwork, but this can be easily fixed with a little creativity, Google Image search and a printer. Thank you, Zeus!

    It's a Shirley Temple movie, and she is cute as usual. The story is dated, but is still fun to watch. Alice Fay is always beautiful. The DVD played well, and the sound and picture were good.

    Thank you so much for the Poor Little Rich Girl DVD that I was able to order from you. I had this movie in VHS, but could not find it in DVD form anywhere! I've been looking for it for years!! Amazon does not have it nor does Ebay other than a UK version which says it will not play on US dvd players.
    The DVD arrived today and the quality is beautiful! I'm so pleased!!
    I told my Shirley friends about this so don't be surprised if you start getting a lot of orders now!

    At first I wasn't sure about ordering the dvd from Zeus but I could't find his movie on dvd anywhere. The dvd plays very well and I am glad I purchased it. It was a simple and easy transaction.

    I had a VHS of this film and actually was able to play it because of my combo player. I started looking for a DVD of this movie a couple of years ago knowing my player would wear out sometime since it was 15 yrs. old. I couldn't find a DVD then. My player bit the dust a few weeks ago. I replaced it with a DVD only player. I was so happy to finally find "Poor Little Rich Girl" in DVD. It plays well. Picture is clear. Sound is great. I wish Zeus had the other old movie I wanted but they didn't so I had to buy it from another company. It skipped, it stopped and wouldn't play all the way. I tried getting help with it but to no avail. I ended up throwing that DVD away.

    The movie is wonderful...just as good as the other Shirley Temple DVDs I purchased at a premium price, no skipping or other problems. Movie is perfect all the way to the end. Thank you for a wonderful job!

    I am a huge Shirley Temple fan and have many fond memories of watching her movies with my grandma. I recently received the Shirley Temple box set as a gift and was devastated when I learned that Poor Little Rich Girl was not included in the set. I was thrilled that I found it here at Zeus DVDs and have been able to introduce my children to another wonderful Shirley Temple movie. Will definitely be purchasing more movies from this site!
