Sun Valley Serenade (1941)

Director:

 H. Bruce Humberstone

Writers:

 Robert Ellis (screenplay), Helen Logan(screenplay)

Stars:

Sonja Henie, John Payne, Glenn Miller

Skating star Sonja Henie and the Glenn Miller Orchestra share the spotlight in Sun Valley Serenade. Henie plays a Norwegian refugee adopted by band pianist John Payne, who mistakenly thought that the full-grown Miss Henie was a 10-year-old little girl. Payne's girlfriend,Lynn Bari, is a soloist with the Miller band, and also a violently jealous sort. When Bari quits Miller out of pique, Henie stages an elaborate ice show as a substitute. This impromptu spectacular thrills the audience at the Sun Valley resort hotel where most of the action takes place. Joan Davis and Milton Berle provide comic relief to the music and romance (you haven't lived until you've seen Berle on skis), while The Nicholas Brothers and Dorothy Dandridge perform a lively chorus of "Chattanooga Choo Choo."

    Great music fun

Great old movie. It was one of my mothers favorite movies and remember watching it with her on TV. I bought it to bring back good memories. Glen Miller and his band are great. The story is a little old fashioned but the cast makes it fun. I’m glad I decided to buy it. It was worth it. The picture is very sharp and clear.

Always a little concerned when ordering from a vendor have not used before or a used DVD but this was a great, new: restored copy. Clear pictures, good sound a true paean to Glenn Miller...we really enjoyed it

I was not sure about ordering this dvd from this vendor but I took a chance. Thank you for a great quality dvd. There were no issues with the picture, sound, etc. I will definitely order from you again. The movie is very good; I grew up watching it with my parents. My mother wanted to replace her VHS copy.

Mickey Rooney that is fun but needed more of him

All Ashore is a 50's musical that needed more of Mickey and less of an over weight Dick Haymes at the end of his film career. The best feature is the location shooting.

    Almost the tops, but --

The 'love(?)' story of Sonjia and John is a bit much, but the music - aaah, the music!! OUTSTANDING Miller!! And the dance routine! - Superb! A great melodic romp in the Idaho snow!!

    Excellent

I got this for my mother. She loves it. Her favorite scene is right at the beginning with Glen Miller playing "Moonlight Serenade" and "I Know Why and So Do You" with Tom Payne and Lynn Bari singing. It makes you just wish you could travel back in time. Thanks
