The most interesting aspect of The Swinger is the name of the character played by Ann-Margret: the former Ann Margaret Olsson essays the role o fKelly Olsson. A naive small-town girl, Kelly aspires to become a writer in the Big City. When her stories are rejected because they aren't exciting and provocative enough, she decides to do some hands-on research by posing as the titular "swinger." She is so successful at this subterfuge that Hefner-like publisher Anthony Franciosa makes it his mission in life to reform the "fallen" Kelly. Didn't they do this one in the 1930s as Theodora Goes Wild, with Irene Dunne and Melvyn Douglas?

    Almost everything I expected

    The movie itself was a hoot. I'm a recent Anne-Margret fan, and couldn't find this anywhere else. VERY happy with the product itself. IF it IS somehow paying royalties to those still getting such for a 55 yr old movie, all the better. The movie features Anne as an ingenue and innocent writer, trying to get her stories published. When no one cares about her stories at even an adult magazine, she decides to try to compete with THAT market. When her overblown story fails to resound as reasonable, she sets out to make the publishers believe that it all happened for real, and even more outstanding, it all happened to HER... Hilarity ensues. MY ONLY complaint is that she was clothed during one scene that stills show as potentially nude, and that might'a made that scene a little more fun, but didn't detract for it's absence. And hey, Playboy published the stills that show at least in part of the scene as shot, she WAS nude. (Not that she hasn't been nude or topless in several other pieces for those who just think they need to see her nude in her prime.) (somewhat guilty as charged, myself, except I am in it for the total ride, not just a pair of mammary glands.) And this movie is a total ride. Throw out any expectations, let the 60s have free reign, and enjoy this one!
