Del Lord, director of many a Three Stooges farce in the 1930s and 1940s, told the actors when to move and when not to move in the silent Barnum Was Right. Glenn Tryon plays a young go-getter without a dime to his name. To prove himself worthy of his sweetheart Merna Kennedy, Tryon tries to rejuvenate a shabby resort hotel. He fills every room-and then some-by spreading the rumor that a fortune in gold is buried somewhere on the hotel grounds. Featured in the cast of Barnum Was Right is British comic actor Basil Radford, who later regaled us in such films as The Lady Vanishes (1938), Dead of Night (1945) and Whisky Galore.
